Background of the Study
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) play a crucial role in healthcare delivery, particularly in low-income regions where government resources are insufficient. NGOs often bridge gaps in healthcare by providing essential services such as immunization programs, maternal and child health initiatives, and public health education (WHO, 2023). In Bauchi State, where healthcare access is limited, NGOs have been instrumental in addressing challenges like malnutrition, infectious diseases, and inadequate maternal healthcare.
NGOs collaborate with governments and international organizations to improve health outcomes in underserved areas. Their interventions are particularly significant in rural areas, where healthcare infrastructure and personnel are scarce (Ibrahim et al., 2024). This study appraises the contributions of NGOs to healthcare delivery in Bauchi State, highlighting their impact, challenges, and areas for improvement.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the critical contributions of NGOs, challenges such as limited funding, lack of coordination with government agencies, and sustainability issues hinder the effectiveness of their interventions. In Bauchi State, the extent to which NGOs address healthcare gaps and their alignment with local health priorities remains underexplored.
This study seeks to evaluate the role of NGOs in healthcare delivery in Bauchi State, examining their successes, challenges, and the sustainability of their initiatives.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the role of NGOs in healthcare delivery in Bauchi State.
2. To identify the challenges faced by NGOs in implementing healthcare interventions.
3. To evaluate the sustainability of NGO-led healthcare initiatives.
Research Questions
1. What role do NGOs play in healthcare delivery in Bauchi State?
2. What challenges do NGOs face in implementing healthcare interventions?
3. How sustainable are NGO-led healthcare initiatives in Bauchi State?
Research Hypotheses
1. H₀: NGOs do not significantly contribute to healthcare delivery in Bauchi State.
2. H₀: Challenges faced by NGOs do not significantly affect their healthcare interventions.
3. H₀: NGO-led healthcare initiatives are not sustainable in Bauchi State.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on healthcare interventions by NGOs in Bauchi State, evaluating their contributions, challenges, and sustainability. Limitations include potential biases in data from NGO staff and variations in the scope of interventions.
